Jess

I have always suspected that I may have dyslexia.

Jess had heard of the Ben Fund and was familiar with some of the services it offered...

However, it wasn’t until she received an email announcing the launch of a new dyslexia support service that she felt compelled to get in touch.

Back when Jess was preparing for her A-Level exams, she underwent an initial screening for dyslexia. The results suggested she might have dyslexia, but before she could pursue a full assessment, she left school… leaving the question unresolved.

The new service offered Jess the opportunity to seek the answers she needed.

When Jess reached out to the Ben Fund to access the newly launched dyslexia assessment service, she was pleased by how straightforward the process was. “I was supported by the Ben Fund throughout”, she shared.

“Since receiving the assessment and confirmation of my dyslexia diagnosis, I feel more confident. I now understand why I may struggle with certain tasks, and I can explain to people how dyslexia affects me.”

Jess went on to reflect on the impact of the diagnosis: “It’s helped me to understand dyslexia more clearly and adapt the way I work. Having the diagnosis has not changed the tasks I do or my work output, it has just allowed me to work in a different way.”

The reality was better than my expectations.

Jess shared her initial concerns, saying, “I thought it might be a long, complicated system, but it was simple and well explained”.

She added “[without access to this service] I would not have received my dyslexia diagnosis, and I wouldn’t have been able to explain or understand my experiences as clearly”.
